From Building networks
For years building inspectors have been a much maligned group. No one rocks up to the Council to say “thank you” for an inspection or a building consent for that matter. The public, the trades, and the professionals are usually resentful, some are rude and often misinformed about the rules of the built environment.
But what the relief effort in Christchurch has shown me is that, for the first time, on this scale, the NZ public are grateful. Thankful that a Mayor like Bob Parker has stepped up to the plate of leadership. Grateful that someone has come to visit them to inspect their homes. Relieved that they can move back in or at least be told stay out!
So to the 200 or so building and P and D inspectors who have travelled to Canterbury to get into the thick of it. Go well my friends. The nation at last knows who you are.
