From Building networks
This tragedy has had a personal impact on the staff at Building Networks. The grandparents of the triplets are known to one of our staff members and our hearts go out to the whanau for the loss of these beautiful wee ones.
There will be talk and angst over coming days and months about the state of the mall’s sprinkler system, the fire alarm and locked exits. People will be on talkback and over the water cooler saying “how dreadful” and that “this would never happen in good ol’ NZ”.
Well, get real… with what some of us know about the state of fire systems and fire and smoke separations in this country – THIS TRAGEDY COULD HAPPEN HERE.
That’s the secret some of us know…. But the NZ public and the Government take it for granted the building industry and building owners have got it together. We have laws to prevent this kind of tragedy from happening BUT it is not working it is a ‘smoke screen’.. We have reports telling us how bad things are but what has been the follow up action and how far have we progressed?
Let the deaths of these Kiwi children (and the other people in this event) not be in vain – wake up – TAKE ACTION.
What does it take..to do our jobs properly and be trained well to do so?
We at Building Networks contribute in some small way to public and life safety through our training events.
That is what it has been about for me…the reason for why I am still in this business….
