From Building networks
Ok, now I really do know I have been teaching this stuff for ages. One of my colleagues in building control described me as the "nana" of building controls. I forgave him as he signed himself "the old fart" building inspector. It is true I have seen many wee chick-a-dees come off the tools and out of Uni and into the twilight zone of the building control world. Gosh, some of you out there are team leaders and managers now... I hope you've passed on some good habits.
In any case it made me reflect on the historic changes we have had. I hope you find this little table helpful to remember what was - and what is. I was also asked recently for a copy of the 1991 Building Act. Here's a link to find the last version before it was changed. Building Act 1991
Building Act: 1991 Building Act 2004
TAs and building certifiers BCAs/TAs split duties plus consultants and contractors
no timeframe on CCCs CCCs 2 year timeframe
safe and sanitary reports COAs
Notice to rectify Notice to fix
Approved Documents Compliance Documents
of course there is much that transferred across
e.g. the Building Code, Compliance Schedules have been around for 22 years...
If you want to know more I will be doing a free webinar on a look at the past in the coming month. Watch this space for time / date...
Change is the norm.. Now I must go off and do some knitting (not)!
